Each half-day commenced with insightful keynotes from distinguished colleagues in academia and practice, setting the tone for rich discussions and exchange of ideas. The breakout sessions, focusing on ‘Financial Resilience between Risk and Uncertainty‘ and ‘Risk Management, Internal Control and Accountability‘, fostered thought-provoking debates. Participants engaged deeply with the nuances of managing risks in a landscape marked by crises such as financial downturns, global pandemics, and cybersecurity threats. These sessions underscored the importance of robust, yet flexible risk management approaches in public sector organizations.

A new addition to the workshop was the Early Career Colloquium, an initiative supporting emerging researchers in our field. This platform enabled young scholars to present their work, garner valuable feedback, and build networks with other academics as well as practitioners. The enthusiasm and innovative perspectives brought forth by these participants were truly inspiring.

As we reflect on the discussions and insights from the workshop, it is evident that the public sector’s approach to risk management is at a pivotal juncture. The need for new tools, a change in mindset towards resilience and anti-fragility, and enhanced inter-organizational collaboration have never been more critical. The workshop’s discourse highlighted the importance of not just managing risks but also proactively preparing for deep uncertainties.

We extend our thanks to all speakers, facilitators, participants, and organizers who contributed to the success of this event. The rich discussions and exchange of ideas have set a foundation for future exploration and research in our field.
